The Thomas Fire started near Santa Paula on December 4, 2017 and Santa Ana winds pushed it into Ventura and around the Ojai Valley. Since then, nobody here needs to be told what an ember can do. A chimney that throws sparks, or a cap whose screen has rusted open, is a risk to the whole street.
So we measure before we sweep. We note the stage of creosote in the flue, check the liner for cracks heat could pass through, and inspect to the level NFPA 211 sets for your situation, from a yearly Level 1 check to a Level 2 camera run for a home sale or after a chimney fire.
